El espiguero negriblanco, espiguero negro y blanco, o semillero negriblanco, (Sporophila luctuosa), es una especie que integra el género: Sporophila, de la familia Thraupidae. Esta ave se distribuye en el centro y norte de América del Sur.

Distribución y hábitat

Se extiende desde Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, y Brasil hasta Perú y Bolivia.

Habita en sabanas y pastizales húmedos.

Black-and-white seedeater

The black-and-white seedeater (Sporophila luctuosa) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist shrubland, subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland, and heavily degraded former forest.

The Black-and-white Seedeater appears, at least in parts of its range, to engage in seasonal movements that take it from the breeding areas on the lower slopes of the Andes, between western Venezuela and northern Bolivia, to the upper Amazonian lowlands. During the breeding season it is mainly found at elevations between 1200 and 2500 m, where it favors grassy areas with scattered bushes, or pastures and roadsides. Males are reasonably distinctive in being principally black above, with white posterior underparts, and a conspicuous white wing speculum. The bill is pale bluish gray in males, but dark in the bland-plumaged females. Like many seedeaters, elucidating its movements and true range is made more difficult due to a general lack of interest in these small birds among many birdwatchers, and the general impossibility of identifying the females of many species in the field.
