El colibrí colilargo menor, también llamado colibrí coludo verde o cometa coliverde (Lesbia nuna), es una especie de ave de la familia Trochilidae, orden Apodiformes.

Distribución y hábitat

Vive en los bosques húmedos y de montaña del interior de Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela y Perú.

Descripción

Al igual que el otro miembro de su género, el Lesbia victoriae (colibrí colilargo mayor), su rasgo físico más representativo es su larguísima cola, que en el caso del colibrí colilargo menor, puede alcanzar en algunos ejemplares los 13 cm de longitud, de los 15 a 17 cm que pueden llegar a medir en total los ejemplares machos. Las hembras tienen un tamaño menor (alrededor de 11 cm) y una cola mucho más corta (de entre 4 a 6 cm de longitud)

Green-tailed trainbearer

The green-tailed trainbearer (Lesbia nuna) is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is found in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland and heavily degraded former forest.

The narrow, forked tails of these small-bodied hummingbirds is over twice the length of their bodies. Males and females are bright green and females are white below with extensive green spotting. Green-tailed Trainbearers inhabit second growth, shrubby forest edges, bush-filled pastures, parks, páramo, and areas with hedges. At higher elevations, they are typically outcompeted by the larger Black tailed Trainbearer (Lesbia victoriae). Active and defensive, these hummingbirds weave around, hovering at flowers at various heights, and females hold small floral territories. During courtship displays, individuals make snapping sounds with their tails.
