El gorrión montés bigotudo, saltón o atlapetes de freno blanco (Atlapetes albofrenatus) es una especie de ave de la familia Passerellidae, que se encuentra en Colombia y Venezuela.

Hábitat

Vive en el bosque de niebla, el bosque húmedo de montaña y los bordes del bosque, entre los 1.500 y 2.500 msnm de altitud.

Descripción

Mide 17,3 cm de longitud. presenta dorso verde oliva; corona y nuca color canela rojizo a rufo; mejillas negras; línea malar blanca bordeada por debajo por una delgada línea submalar negra; mentón blanco; partes inferiores amarillas, con matices oliva en los flancos.

Alimentación

Se alimenta de artrópodos y de frutos.

Moustached brush finch

The moustached brush finch (Atlapetes albofrenatus) is a species of bird in the Passerellidae family.

It is found in northern Colombia, where its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests and heavily degraded former forest.

The Moustached Brush-Finch takes its name from the broad white malar stripe. This moustache is particularly prominent in the Venezuelan subspecies, which has a yellow throat. The throat is white in the subspecies of the Colombian Andes, however, and so the throat and malar tend to blend together (although there often is a narrow dusky line that separates the two). In both subspecies, the crown is rufous, the upperparts are olive green, and the breast and belly are yellow. Moustached Brush-Finches are partially arboreal, and forage as pairs or in small (family?) groups up to 10 m above the ground at the edge of humid montane forest and in similar habitats. The Moustached Brush-Finch has a small geographic range, but it is fairly common.
