El tiranuelo cabecirrojo³ (Pseudotriccus ruficeps), también denominado tirano-enano cabecirrufo (en Ecuador), tiranuelo colorado o tiranuelo encapuchado (en Colombia), tirano-pigmeo de cabeza rufa (en Perú) o atrapamoscas pigmeo rufo,⁴ es una especie de ave paseriforme perteneciente al género Pseudotriccus integrado en la familia Tyrannidae. Es nativo de la región andina de América del Sur.

Distribución y hábitat

Se distribuye por Colombia (localmente en los Andes centrales y orientales, también en la pendiente occidental en el norte y sur) hacia el sur hasta Ecuador (al sur hasta Cotopaxi) en la pendiente occidental, y, en la pendiente oriental en Perú hasta Bolivia (La Paz, Cochabamba).²
Es bastante común pero inconspícuo en el sotobosque de selvas subtropicales y tropicales montanas entre los 2000 y los 3300 msnm de altitud.⁵

Rufous-headed pygmy tyrant

The rufous-headed pygmy tyrant (Pseudotriccus ruficeps) is a species of bird in the family Tyrannidae.

It is found in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.

Rufous-headed Pygmy-Tyrant is a highly distinctive, diminutive songbird of humid Andean forests. Found from 2000 to 3300 m from central Colombia south to western Bolivia, this tiny flycatcher inhabits forest understory and edge habitat. It has a bright rufous head and is olive overall, darker above than below, with rufous edging to wing feathers. Rufous-headed Pygmy-Tyrant gleans insects from leaves and can occasionally be detected either by bill snapping sounds or abrupt, buzzy vocalizations.
