Southern nightingale-wren
The southern nightingale-wren (Microcerculus marginatus), also known as the scaly-breasted wren, is a species of bird in the family Troglodytidae. Its rich song varies locally over its range, suggesting that more than one species is included in the taxonomic complex currently called the southern nightingale-wren.
It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitatis moist subtropical or tropical lowland forests.
Scaly-breasted Wren is a small wren of Central and South America. The species is found from Costa Rica and Panama south to Bolivia and Peru on the floor of humid forest, especially in ravines. It is round and stub-tailed with a long bill, dull brown above and on the flanks with white underparts and fine black barring on the underparts. Scaly-breasted Wren is the southern component of the species pair that used to be known as Nightingale-wren. That common name («Nightingale-wren») now belongs to the northern taxon, while the Southern Nightingale-wren is now known as Scaly-breasted Wren. The species is very hard to see as it walks on the ground in dense cover, bobbing its rear end.
